Job summary

The City of Dania Beach is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I to join the Public Services Team. This role performs journeyman-level trades across carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fabrication to maintain municipal facilities.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with vocational training or trades experience and a valid driver's license. This is an on-site, full-time position with growth opportunities within a dynamic city team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of vocational training or work experience in construction or trades.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; Florida license within 30 days if out of state.

Responsibilities

• Addresses facility issues such as climate control, odors, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs.
• Performs journeyman level work in carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.
• Maintains building/facilities security and maintenance: doors, locks, windows, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors.
• Executes replacement/installation tasks: electrical switches, outlets, plumbing fixtures, drainage, ceiling and roof tiles.
• Applies trade skills to new construction projects like tile installation and drywall finishing.
• Keeps records of tasks, work orders, time sheets and materials used.

Position Summary

The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I to join our dynamic Public Services Team. The ideal candidate will perform journeyman level manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in performing trades activities in the maintenance and repair of buildings and their equipment and accessories and in general upkeep of municipal structures and facilities. According to work assignments, employees in this classification apply trades skills in rough and finish carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, electricity maintenance, HVAC, plumbing and fabrication. Work assignments may be wholly in one line of craft and at one location but generally involve a variety of skills and are performed in many different locations. • Addresses facility issues (i.e. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs).


• Performs journeyman level work in application of various trades occupations, e.g., carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.


• Performs various building/facilities security and maintenance tasks, e.g., doors, locks, window, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors.


• Performs various building/facilities replacement and installation, e.g., electrical switches and outlets, plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, ceiling and roof tiles.


• Apply trade skills to new construction projects, e.g., tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls and fixtures.


• Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, time sheets, materials required/used, purchase requisitions.


• Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.


• Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.


• Performs maintenance of air conditioning systems (including installation of a/c wall units), refrigeration equipment and ice makers.


• Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.


• Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.


• Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves.


• May be required to climb to work on City buildings roof tops or possibly using the bucket truck for various duties


• Cross trains to provide support in other areas of Public Service as needed.


• Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

What's required: (Minimum Requirements)

• High School Diploma or GED


• Minimum one (1) years previous vocational training, or work experience in the construction or trades fields.


• Possession of a valid Driver’s license with overall good driving record required. If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire date
