Responsibilities

• Acts as primary contact for any building issues (climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs).
• Performs journeyman level work in carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.
• Performs building/facilities security and maintenance tasks (doors, locks, windows, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors).
• Performs building/facilities replacement/installation (electrical switches/outlets, plumbing fixtures, drainage, ceiling/roof tiles).
• Applies trades skills to new construction projects (tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls/fixtures).
• Maintains records (work orders, time sheets, materials, requisitions).
• Works independently or in teams.
• Ensures safety and accident prevention compliance.
• Maintains air conditioning systems, refrigeration equipment and ice makers.
• Performs metal fabrication (welding, brazing, cutting).
• Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or critical events.
• Performs immediate cleaning to maintain clean facilities.
• Coordinates and assists with moves of departments and employees.
• May climb to roof tops or use bucket truck for duties.
• Cross-trains to provide support in other Public Service areas.

The ideal candidate will perform journeyman level manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in performing trades activities in the maintenance and repair of buildings and their equipment and accessories and in general upkeep of municipal structures and facilities. According to work assignments, employees in this classification apply trades skills in rough and finish carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, electricity maintenance, HVAC, plumbing and fabrication. Work assignments may be wholly in one line of craft and at one location but generally involve a variety of skills and are performed in many different locations. Duties & Responsibilities:

• Acts as primary contact for any building issues (i.e. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs).
• Performs journeyman level work in application of various trades occupations, e.g., carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.
• Performs various building/facilities security and maintenance tasks, e.g., doors, locks, window, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors.
• Performs various building/facilities replacement and installation, e.g., electrical switches and outlets, plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, ceiling and roof tiles.
• Apply trades skills to new construction projects, e.g., tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls and fixtures.
• Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, time sheets, materials required/used, purchase requisitions.
• Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
• Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Performs maintenance of air conditioning systems (including installation of a/c wall units), refrigeration equipment and ice makers.
• Performs metal fabrication tasks, e.g., welding, brazing, cutting.
• Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
• Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.
• Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves.
• May be required to climb to work on City buildings roof tops or possibly using the bucket truck for various duties.
• Cross-trains to provide support in other areas of Public Service as needed.
• Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
