Job summary

Butler University is seeking a maintenance technician to perform semi-skilled and skilled duties across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, data communication, fire alarms, and building automation systems on a second shift.

You will receive work orders, diagnose issues, perform repairs, and assist more skilled staff. Ability to lift, read procedures, and use tools is required; overtime and on-call as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year in a skilled trade (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or data communications).
  • OSHA 10 and Lock Out Tag Out training required.
  • CFC Certification required for HVAC trade.
  • Certified Pool Operator required for pool operations.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to use computers/iPads, update records, use tools, follow safety procedures, and pass a lift test.
  • Additional experience and certifications may qualify for higher levels.

Responsibilities

  • Receives work order requests for diagnosis, repair, or installation tasks.
  • Handles basic issues and assists more skilled staff with complex work.
  • Communicates with staff, faculty, and students to provide service.
  • Ensures work is performed in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May work various shifts; overtime may be required.
  • Essential staff may need to report during university closures or bad weather.

Job description

Position Overview

Under direct supervision of the T.E.M.P. shop supervisor, thisindividual performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties ina variety of trade areas that may include plumbing, electrical,HVAC, data communication, fire alarms, campus utilities, buildingautomations systems, swimming pool operations, preventativemaintenance, and event staffing. Assignments may includeservice/diagnosis, repair/replace, new install, preventivemaintenance, construction of some minor projects, or other tradesbased on knowledge and skill level.

This is a second shift opportunity from 2:30pm-11pm.

Responsibilities
  • Receives work order requests that may includeservice/diagnosis, repair or replacement, new install, preventativemaintenance, construction of some minor projects, or otherassignments based on knowledge and skill level.
  • Handles basic issues and problems and assists more skilledstaff with the completion of larger and more complexassignments.
  • Communicates with internal customers to include staff, faculty,and students as needed. Provides friendly and professional customerservice experiences.
  • Ensures work is performed in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May work various shifts, and overtime is required.
  • This is an essential staff position that may be required toreport to work when the University is closed or during inclementweather.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in a skilled trade (HVAC,plumbing, electrical, or data communications)
    • Commercial Maintenance Experience required
  • OSHA 10 and Lock Out Tag Out training required
  • CFC Certification required for HVAC tradeli>CFC Certification required for HVAC trade
  • CFC Certification required for HVAC trade
  • Certified Pool Operator required for pool operations
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving recordrequired
  • Must be able to
    • Use computers and iPads at a basic level
    • Update maintenance records
    • Use hand and power tools applicable to trade
    • Read, understand, and follow safety procedures
    • Understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
    • Pass a physical exam and lift test

Additional experience and certifications may qualify you for higherlevel positions.

Driving Restrictions
  • Charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, impaired or under the influence of drugs.
  • Charged with any moving traffic violations or parking citations. (in the last three years)
  • Had driver’s license suspended for any reason.
  • Been involved in any vehicular accident. (in the last three years)
