The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of municipal facilities, buildings, and structures. This position will provide a wide range of tasks, including routine building maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry, manual labor, and equipment maintenance and repair. This position also coordinates logistics and provides on-site oversight for specialized contractors.
Supervision:
Works under the general supervision of the Administrative Services Manager.
Hiring Range: $47,912.00 - $61,118.00 DOQ plus excellent benefits
- Perform routine inspections, upkeep and maintenance of municipal buildings and facilities to identify and address issues.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders, prioritizing urgent repairs to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Assemble, maintain, and repair equipment while scheduling repairs with specialized vendors when needed.
- Perform manual labor and some semiskilled manual labor as needed for facility maintenance and events.
- Diagnose and repair minor electrical and plumbing issues.
- Coordinate with contractors for preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure they operate efficiently and safely.
- Perform carpentry work such as repairing doors, windows, and other structural components as needed.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of keyless entry, security and fire alarm systems.
- Maintain and repair lighting systems, including changing bulbs and ballasts.
- Perform drywall repair and painting tasks to maintain and enhance the aesthetic and structural integrity of facilities.
- Complete minor exterior and grounds maintenance, including but not limited to items such as flags, gutters and heat cable.
- Document maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and hours worked.
- Create and maintain schedules for preventive maintenance, routine services and equipment.
- Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies and order replacements when necessary.
- Comply with all safety regulations and protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Assist in assembling and hauling furniture, deliveries, supplies and equipment as needed.
- Collaborate with the staff and construction teams to provide maintenance support during new building projects and remodels.
- Ensure the proper installation and functionality of new facilities systems, including security, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and more.
- Participate in on-call and emergency response duties as needed, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and solve problems both independently and within a group setting.

- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Knowledge of small engine repair preferred.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
- Knowledge of MS Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Special License, Registration, or Certification Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in facilities maintenance is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in general facility maintenance and upkeep
- General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting, light construction
- Experience with facility maintenance or asset tracking software preferred
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A valid driver's license with good driving record.
