Job summary

Village of North Palm Beach (FL) seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled to skilled tasks maintaining buildings, equipment, and Village facilities, parks, and grounds. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum three years of work experience in building and facilities maintenance, repair, or trades work.
  • Extensive knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, and machinery.
  • Considerable skill in a variety of building trades and use of standard tools.
  • Awareness of safety measures and hazards related to maintenance work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and rough sketches and to estimate time/materials.

  • Inspect buildings regularly and implement preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee contractors for janitorial, plumbing, electrical, and related trades.
  • Conduct daily inspections of public areas and ensure facilities are clean and stocked.
  • Respond to work orders and emergencies, coordinating with Village staff and vendors.
  • Paint interiors/exteriors and install/repair fences, sidewalks, and fixtures.
  • Operate woodworking tools and municipal vehicles as needed.
  • Readily adapt to changes and maintain safety and service quality.

Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled to skilled work in connection with the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment as well as in the general upkeep of Village structures, facilities, parks and grounds. Employees in this classification report to an assigned Administrator in the Public Works Department or to the General Manager of the Country Club.

  • Performs general and specialized tasks associated with the construction, renovation, modification, installation, and repair of Village buildings, apparatus, facilities and grounds.
  • Regularly inspects all buildings and structures to determine that functional systems are in good working order and that repairs are made as needed. Develops and ensures completion of preventive maintenance program for Village facilities while also assisting in the management of vendor contracts.
  • Performs and coordinates a wide range of facility maintenance functions for Village buildings, structures, and amenities, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Oversees contractors for janitorial, housekeeping, and plumbing while responding to maintenance needs between contractor visits or during emergency situations.
  • Conducts daily inspections of public areas to include parking lots, restrooms, hallways, lobbies, etc., ensuring equipment is in optimal working condition and that facilities are clean and adequately stocked for Village residents, staff, members, and guests.
  • Responds to customer services requests, utilizing the Village’s work order system.
  • Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings and other Village facilities, using spray guns, rollers, and brushes.
  • Installs and repairs fences, railings, and backstops.
  • Lays, finishes, and repairs concrete sidewalks, pavers, floors, walls, and steps.
  • Performs locksmith, plumbing, electrical, and other trades-related tasks to include roofing, glazing, plastering, sanding and refinishing floors, as well as demolition and salvage work.
  • Operates woodworking and shop equipment such as jointers, planers, and power saws.
  • Operates municipal vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other Village employees and the general public.
  • Reports to work as directed during state of emergency conditions, e.g., hurricanes and natural disasters.
  • Performs work-related duties during the day, night, weekends and holiday, if needed, and responds to emergencies that occur during normal work hours as well as after-hours incidents.
  • Assists with overseeing contractor/vendor activities at Village facilities.
  • Assists Facilities Manager in obtaining vendor quotes for repairs and maintenance.
  • Readily accepts, coordinates, and executes changes in daily routine with competing priorities as well as consistently meets Village and Country Club standards that focus on safety, prevention, and a high-quality experience for residents, staff, members, and guests.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience in building and facilities maintenance, repair, and/or trades work, with preference in the areas of construction, carpentry and painting.
  • Extensive knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and machinery of building maintenance and repair work.
  • Considerable skill in a variety of building trades, including the use and care of standard tools and equipment.
  • Firsthand knowledge of occupational hazards, safety measures, and precautions associated with building maintenance and repair functions.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches and oral/written instructions and to make simple time and material estimates.
  • Valid Florida driver license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks include the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) and on occasion the intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (50+ pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed with the potential for intermittent exposure to unfavorable elements such as heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, etc. Tasks involve working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts and material handling where heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Standard protective gear and equipment as well as specialized safety measures are provided as needed or required.
