Job summary

The Town of Nantucket's Department of Public Works is seeking a dependable Laborer to join our team. This is a full-time position responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of Town facilities.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of general maintenance and facility support duties, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and operating tools, to keep Town buildings and facilities safe, clean, functional, and well maintained.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; up to 1 year of grounds/roadway maintenance experience.
• Class D Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s license at time of hire.
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds; outdoor work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance of Town facilities.
• Move, load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies as needed.
• Paint, patch, carpentry, plumbing, and other general facility tasks.
• Operate hand tools and power tools safely.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent, and up to one year of experience in grounds and roadway maintenance; or an equivalent combination.
