Position: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Starting Pay: $30 per hour

HERFF JONES, Machine Maintenance Technician - Indianapolis, IN

Your Opportunity:

The Herff Jones Maintenance team is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.

This is a Regular Fulltime position with benefit eligibility including, medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k), paid time off, and additional voluntary benefits.

Shift: Standard shift is 6:00am - 2:30pm Monday through Friday.

Hours fluctuate to ten- and twelve-hour days if needed including Saturdays and Sundays if necessary due to facility demand. On-call availability also required.

Here's How You'll Make an Impact:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring smooth operation of building and facility equipment (heating, lighting, air conditioning, plumbing, water, facility maintenance, etc.) A strong focus on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, time management, and a balance of priorities will be vital to operating successfully in the role.

What We Want You to Accomplish:

First 30 Days:

  • Learn all equipment and facility sets and how they function and operate.
  • Perform basic opening and closing of work orders in CMMS.

First 60 days:
  • Quickly identify facility needs efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and record activities for the maintenance manager.
  • Support in the improvement of facility maintenance process to better meet the needs of production teams and safety.

First 90 Days:
  • Perform process improvement activities, streamline process control measures and investigate facility for continuous improvements.

What You'll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:

  • Repair and maintain a variety of equipment in the facility or coordinate repair as needed.
  • Preform carpentry and remodeling work.
  • Electrical and plumbing work, including installation.
  • Move and assemble furniture and equipment.
  • Read and interpret sketches, drawings, diagrams and blueprints of the facilities and equipment.
  • Use a personal computer and appropriate computer software to close out work tickets and communication.
  • Maintain a clean work area and shop, ensuring tools and equipment stay in safe, proper working order.
  • Operate with a high level of personal organization.
  • Consult with Facility Engineer on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs and modifications.
  • Read and interpret sketches, drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Use a personal computer and appropriate computer software.
  • Consistently deliver the best in customer service. As an employee, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with customers, visitors, and other employees.
  • Inspect property and buildings for preventative maintenance and safety issues and take immediate corrective action.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring to the Table:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Above all else, a safety-first mindset.
  • Proven success of effectively communicating (listening, writing, and verbal) across all organizational levels to accomplish tasks assigned.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office and learning new systems/technology with understanding some work is processed manually.
  • Work experience in the field of facilities maintenance with knowledge of electricity, plumbing, Minor HVAC, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair.
  • Skilled at using a variety of hand and electrical tools.
  • Be a self-starter and work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
  • Basic math and engineering skills to support the design or modification of equipment or fixtures as required.

Physical Activities:

Daily activity includes but is not limited to:

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, use of hands to handle, hold, grasp, and reach.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance.
  • Reading, communication, simple math.
  • Ability to regularly move and lift/carry more than 50lbs.
  • Occasionally encounter working with heights, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, heat, and electricity.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above moderate.
