Job summary

City of Dania Beach is hiring for a journeyman-level maintenance technician responsible for upkeep and repair of municipal buildings and facilities in South Florida. You will apply carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fabrication skills across various sites.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus three years of vocational training or equivalent trades experience.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of vocational training or full-time trades experience.
  • Florida license with good driving record; out-of-state license needs Florida license within 30 days.
  • Ability to lift over 75 pounds frequently.
  • CDL B Driver’s License preferred; relevant certifications/licenses valued.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman-level maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Apply trades skills to carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fabrication.
  • Perform building/facilities security and maintenance tasks (doors, locks, windows, etc.).
  • Coordinate and lead work orders; assist with project completion and safety compliance.

Education

High School Diploma or GED
Three years vocational training or full-time work experience in construction/trades
Florida driver’s license with good driving record
CDL B Driver’s License

Position Summary

The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to perform journeyman level manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility. The ideal candidate will perform trade activities in the maintenance and repair of buildings and their equipment and accessories and in general upkeep of municipal structures and facilities. In addition, employees in this classification will apply trades skills in rough and finish carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, electricity maintenance, HVAC, plumbing and fabrication.   • Acts as primary contact for any building issues (i.e. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies, and repairs).
  • Performs journeyman-level work in the application of various trades occupations, e.g., carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fabrication.
  • Performs various building/facilities security and maintenance tasks, e.g., doors, locks, windows, awnings, screens, glass, and mirrors.
  • Performs various building/facilities replacement and installation, e.g., electrical switches and outlets, plumbing fixtures, drainage systems, ceiling and roof tiles.
  • Apply trades skills to new construction projects, e.g., tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls and fixtures.
  • Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, timesheets, materials required/used, and purchase requisitions.
  • Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on the area of assignment.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs maintenance of air conditioning systems (including installation of a/c wall units), refrigeration equipment, and ice makers.
  • Functions in a lead capacity as needed in coordinating efficient and timely completion of work orders and project assignments.
  • Performs metal fabrication tasks, e.g., welding, brazing, cutting.
  • Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
  • Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.
  • Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves.
  • Cross trains to provide support in other areas of Public Service as needed.
  • Work may also require balancing, climbing, crawling, feeling, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, communicating, visual acuity, and walking.
What's required:
(Minimum Requirements)
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of previous vocational training, or full-time work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license with an overall good driving record is required. If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
  • Ability to lift over 75 pounds frequently.

  • Five (5) years of previous vocational training or work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • CDL B Driver’s License
  • Possession of work-related certifications and/or licenses.
