JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and upkeeping all buildings owned and operated by the City of Douglasville. The incumbent should possess knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, computers, painting, sheetrock repair, lighting fixtures, plumbing, and other building maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Maintain and repair city facilities, equipment, and buildings through carpentry, electrical work, painting, and plumbing.
• Install, maintain, and repair flooring surfaces including carpeting, tile, linoleum, and wood.
• Operate machinery and tools such as floor buffers, drills, and paint sprayers.
• Keep records of inventory and maintenance work.
• Identify problems, coordinate with outside contractors, and supervise their work.
• Perform groundskeeping tasks including mowing, planting, pruning, fertilizing, and snow removal.
• Perform minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
• Able to supervise and work with inmate crews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PUBLIC SAFETY & MUNICIPAL COURT BUILDING

• Maintain and repair facilities such as fuel centers, car care centers, and K-9 care buildings.
• Perform manual labor including cleaning, unclogging drains, repairing fixtures, and basic HVAC maintenance.
• Work on-call, including nights, weekends, and during emergencies.
• Able to supervise inmate crews.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent, two years of technical coursework, or five years of experience in building maintenance; or an Associate’s degree with relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of building maintenance, safety procedures, alarm and electronic keyless systems.
• Skilled in electrical and plumbing tasks, operating hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, coordinate with contractors, and handle multiple tasks.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Georgia CDL Driver’s License preferred; must obtain within 12 months. Police Department Maintenance Technician requires a Class C Driver’s License and completion of Georgia POST Jailor certification before supervising inmate crews.
