Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the WBNS-TV station in Columbus, Ohio. You will coordinate building operations, grounds upkeep, backup power maintenance, and fleet logistics to support the station's technical infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a facility technician or in property maintenance, with a track record supporting multiple locations.
  • Experience in high-availability environments like media stations or telecom hubs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and industrial HVAC configurations is a significant plus.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean, insurable record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily building maintenance and security checks across multiple station locations and technical sites.
  • Manage exterior grounds, landscaping, outdoor lighting, drainage, parking lot upkeep, and snow removal.
  • Coordinate infrastructure projects with the Head of Technology to align power and cooling with equipment upgrades.
  • Assist in maintaining facility backup generators, fuel tracking, and load bank testing.
  • Schedule servicing and repairs for news vehicles and production vans across locations.
  • Maintain uninterrupted utility flow using UPS and automatic transfer switches.
  • Help regulate precision cooling and HVAC for control rooms and server areas.
  • Track vehicle registrations and regulatory documents (PUCO/OSHP) and insurance.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for contract compliance and maintenance delivery.
  • Follow disaster recovery protocols and ensure fleet readiness for major events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support station needs.

We are searching for a Facilities Maintenance Technician for our WBNS-TV station, based in Columbus, Ohio and reporting to the Head of Technology. This position coordinates multi-site building operations, grounds upkeep, critical backup power maintenance, and fleet logistics to support the station's technical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Multi-Site Facility Operations: Perform daily building maintenance, security checks, and asset upkeep across multiple station locations and technical sites.
  • Grounds Maintenance Management: Execute exterior property care across all sites, including seasonal landscaping, outdoor lighting checks, drainage clearing, parking lot upkeep, and winter snow removal.
  • Tech-Facilities Alignment: Carry out infrastructure projects under the guidance of the Head of Technology, ensuring power and cooling match equipment upgrades.
  • Generator Maintenance Assistance: Assist in maintaining facility backup generators at all sites by coordinating load bank testing, tracking fuel levels, and scheduling technician service.
  • Fleet Maintenance & Logistics: Schedule routine servicing and mechanical repairs for news vehicles, satellite trucks, and production vans distributed across locations.
  • Critical Power Upkeep: Assist in maintaining uninterrupted utility flow across sites using industrial backup generators, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, and automatic transfer switches.
  • Specialized Building HVAC Management: Help regulate continuous precision cooling and building HVAC systems for control rooms, server racks, and studio floors.
  • Vehicle Compliance & Safety: Track vehicle registrations, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) regulations, and commercial auto insurance documents.
  • Vendor Contract Coordination: Coordinate with third-party facility vendors across multiple sites to ensure contract compliance and timely maintenance delivery.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Follow facility emergency protocols established by tech leadership and ensure the vehicle fleet is staged for major news events.
  • Operational Flexibility: Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Technology to support evolving station requirements and tech/building infrastructure needs.
Required Qualifications
  • 3 or more years of experience working as a facility technician or in property maintenance, with a proven track record of supporting multiple physical locations. Experience in high-availability environments like media stations or telecom hubs is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and specialized industrial building HVAC configurations a significant plus.
  • Possession of an OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification is preferred but not required.
  • History of working within a technology, engineering, or broadcast operations department.
  • Basic understanding of Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) regulations and local vehicle safety standards.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with a clean, insurable driving record.
  • Ability to travel regularly between facility locations using station or personal vehicles.li>
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders to inspect building infrastructure and grounds across various sites. #LI-MS1
Pay Range

$31 - $36 USD
