Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing preventative, reactive, and emergency maintenance to ensure all on-campus facilities are maintained safely and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Add value as a key member of the facilities maintenance team; understands regulatory compliance, maintenance strategies, and excellent customer service.
- Works in coordination with the Facilities Maintenance team to serve our customers at the hospital campus.
- Completes and appropriately documents all work assigned to the Facilities Maintenance crew.
- Supports the Facilities Maintenance Operations Manager, Safety Team, and Facilities Director.
- Provides backup coverage to other Facilities Maintenance Technicians as needed.
- Updates staff and management when necessary.
- Communicates engineering/maintenance issues to both internal and external hospital departments and contacts.
- Performs preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Conducts assigned Environment of Care inspections and routine regulatory physical checks, such as exit/emergency light inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, and generator runs.
- Participates in ongoing training and education as required and assigned.
- Follows and enforces Joint Commission and CMS regulations.
- Is available for emergency on-call maintenance when needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Other Information
Technical Expertise
- General commercial building maintenance.
- General Trades: Light Carpentry, Finishing, Painting, Door Hardware, Locks/Keying, Signage.
- Electrical systems: Lockout/Tag Out and Wiring Diagrams; 120/208 Volt and 277/480 Volt.
- Plumbing systems: Assemble, install, or repair pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, or drainage systems according to specification and applicable codes; Steam systems (up to 125#).
- Commercial HVAC and refrigeration: Compressors, motors, pumps, fans, and controls; Refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, and service gauges; Troubleshooting a wide variety of mechanical equipment.
- Building Automation (BAS) experience.
- Evaluating emergency situations and determining a safe and appropriate solution to issues as they arise.
- Building codes, NFPA, and life safety regulations.
- Joint Commission and CMS regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong ability to work both independently and as a valued team member.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or similar software. Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) is desirable.
Education And Experience
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 2 years is preferred, but entry-level candidates will be considered.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
