ADP, Inc. seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support a 260,000-square-foot Theodore, Alabama distribution campus. The role covers preventive and corrective work on buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or trade school preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities or maintenance-related roles preferred.
  • Experience across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical systems preferred.
  • Ability to read manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety practices.
  • Forklift experience required; certification preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with federal and Alabama chemical handling and pesticide regulations; licensing may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, equipment, trucks, and fixtures.
  • Complete regularly assigned preventive maintenance tasks and schedules.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Repair structures, machines, and equipment using appropriate tools and safety procedures.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Coordinate maintenance services with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Assist with maintenance of company vehicles, forklifts, and equipment.
  • Inspect facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness.
  • Operate landscaping equipment such as tractors, mowers, blowers, and pressure washers.
  • Install, inspect, and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Perform waste collection and disposal as per procedures.
  • Maintain sidewalks, parking areas, and exterior spaces.
  • Monitor grounds for safety hazards and report issues.

Job description

As the Facilities Maintenance Technician, you play a vital role in supporting employee satisfaction and comfort, ensuring a safe and aesthetically pleasing workplace, and maintaining our logistics and distribution infrastructure at the 260,000-square-foot Theodore, Alabama distribution campus, situated on 30 acres of land. This is a hands-on, multifaceted role involving preventive and corrective maintenance of buildings, vehicles, logistics equipment, and groundskeeping duties.

You will maintain systems including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, minor landscaping and groundskeeping, janitorial functions, and assist with servicing company vehicles and forklifts. You will maintain compliance with safety protocols and support overall operational readiness. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-focused, highly motivated, and enjoys working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilities Maintenance
  • Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the preventive maintenance, repair, and upkeep of buildings, grounds, facilities, equipment, trucks, forklifts, and fixtures
  • Complete regularly assigned preventive maintenance tasks and schedules
  • Evaluate, repair, and maintain plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
  • Repair structures, machines, and equipment using appropriate tools and safety procedures
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed
  • Coordinate maintenance services with internal departments and external vendors
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored

REQUIREMENTS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or trade school preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities or maintenance-related roles preferred
  • Experience with multiple trades such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical systems preferred
  • Ability to read manuals, blueprints, and schematics
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety practices
  • Forklift experience required; certification preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of applicable safety standards and regulations, including those of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Ability to comply with all applicable federal and Alabama regulations related to chemical handling and pesticide use; licensing may be required
  • Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Use of ladders, tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and chemicals consistent with maintenance work
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment
