Job summary

Bexar County is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I - C to perform routine repairs and maintenance of building equipment, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds across county facilities, including detention facilities.

Under direct supervision, you will work on basic maintenance tasks, inspect equipment, document readings, and assist in renovations while adhering to safety standards. This full-time role requires rotating shifts, on-call availability, and teamwork with county staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years’ experience in commercial building equipment repairs and maintenance, or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of commercial building equipment repairs including plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical fundamentals.
• Good knowledge of related tools and equipment; safety standards and practices.
• Ability to operate all related tools and equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
• Ability to read and follow instructions; perform basic time and material estimates; basic math calculations.
• Willingness to attend training; may be assigned to various county facilities; ability to work on-call 24/7/365.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building equipment and machinery.
• Performs basic plumbing troubleshooting tasks including fixture repairs and installation.
• Assists in construction, remodeling and renovation work.
• Performs basic carpentry, concrete and masonry repairs.
• Repairs commercial laundry and kitchen fixtures and appliances.
• Performs tile repairs and replacements.
• Records readings from gauges and documents discrepancies.
• Performs building inspections and maintains documentation.
• Observes and reports security problems to proper authorities.
• Assists in locksmith functions for detention facility doors and hardware.
• Performs other maintenance duties as assigned.
