Bexar County in Texas is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I - C to perform routine repairs and maintenance of building equipment, plumbing, carpentry, and facility systems across county sites, including detention facilities.

Under direct supervision, you will inspect, document readings, assist in renovations, and support locksmith tasks. On-call 24/7/365 and rotating shifts are required; a HS diploma or GED and a valid Texas driver’s license are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED plus 2 years of commercial building repair experience.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and mechanical fundamentals.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Able to work on-call 24/7/365 and rotating shifts.
  • Able to read instructions and perform measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and maintains building equipment and machinery.
  • Plumbing fixture repairs and installations.
  • Assists in construction, remodeling and renovations.
  • Performs carpentry, concrete and masonry repairs.
  • Maintains readings and inspections; documents discrepancies.

The family of jobs is organized in a career path that extends from Facilities Maintenance Technician I (NE-04) to Facilities Maintenance Technician IV (NE-10). Advancement through the career path is contingent upon achieving increasing levels of skill, experience, education, certification and performance.Description**Duties and Responsibilities*** Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building equipment and machinery* Performs basic plumbing troubleshooting tasks including plumbing fixture repairs, parts replacements, and fixture removal and/or installation* Assists in construction, remodeling and renovation work* Performs basic carpentry, concrete and masonry repairs* Repairs commercial laundry and kitchen fixtures and appliances* Performs replacement and/or repairs of acoustical or metal ceiling tile, vinyl floor tile and ceramic floor tile* Records readings taken from gauges on machinery and equipment; and documents and reports discrepancies of readings* Performs building inspections and maintains proper documentation as required* Observes and reports security problems to proper authorities* Assists in the performance of basic locksmith functions including troubleshooting, repairing and preventive maintenance on detention facility sliding door locking systems* Perform other maintenance duties as assigned**Minimum Qualifications*** Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and two (2) years' experience in commercial building equipment repairs and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience* Basic knowledge of commercial building equipment repairs and maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical fundamentals; good knowledge of all related tools and equipment; good knowledge of safety standards and practices* Skill in operating all related tools and equipment* Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license* Ability to perform a variety of maintenance functions; ability to read and follow instructions; ability to calculate time and material estimates; ability to performs basic measurement and mathematical calculations; ability to exercise independent judgment when necessary; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and outside agencies* Must be able and willing to attend training at department's discretion* May be assigned to any or various County facilities* Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance* Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test* Required to be on-call 24/7/365.* When required, shall work extra hours, holidays, weekends and other shifts* Required to work rotating shift* May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek**Working With Bexar County**Bexar County offers employees a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits.
