Job summary

The South Dakota Department of the Military is seeking a qualified Building Maintenance Supervisor to lead day-to-day facility maintenance, operational readiness, and infrastructure preservation across Sioux Falls installations.

The role involves supervising maintenance staff, managing grounds, overseeing procurement and contracts, and ensuring compliance with state and federal building codes and safety standards. Travel within the state may be required; a background check is required.

Qualifications

• Current state licensure as a Journeyman or Master Electrician, or Journeyman or Master Plumber.
• Formal technical or vocational training in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration; Building Automation Systems.
• Leadership experience supervising maintenance personnel, seasonal labor or trade contractors.
• Experience navigating state government procurement systems, inventory tracking, or military installation operations.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs across designated facilities.
• Schedule and supervise seasonal workers for grounds, pavement maintenance, snow and ice removal.
• Assist with state procurement of materials, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
• Ensure building systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC) meet safety and code standards.
