Job summary

Wheaton Park District is seeking a part-time Maintenance position to care for districts facilities, grounds, and equipment. Responsibilities include routine and preventative maintenance, custodial tasks, and assisting with program setups and deliveries across multiple sites.

The role requires a minimum 18 years old, a high school diploma or equivalent, and experience in maintenance. A valid driver's license and CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days) are required.

Responsibilities

• Attends work site as scheduled; may be assigned to other shifts and locations based on district needs.
• Performs routine and preventative maintenance and repairs to district lands, facilities, and equipment.
• Assist with custodian tasks at all district facilities and grounds.
• Assist with cleaning interior, exterior, and immediate grounds while performing light maintenance.
• Assist with coordinating and setting up building for programs and rentals.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and distributing custodial and recreation supplies to various locations.
• Assist with performing minor building repairs and report repairs as needed.
• Shovel snow and de-ice walkways.
• Wear personal protective equipment for job function when needed.
• Maintain effective two-way communication with district staff and supervisor.
• Provide high quality customer service to internal and external customers.
• Follow Wheaton Park District policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Responsible for performing various routine and preventative maintenance tasks related to facilities, grounds, and equipment throughout the District. Basic plumbing and carpentry skills required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum age of 18 required. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in maintenance repairs and construction field required. Must be able to multi-task and work calmly and effectively under pressure. Must have good verbal communication and time management skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Attendance at work site as scheduled; must be available to work other shifts and overtime as required. Must be available to be reassigned to another division if needed, work locations may vary based on district needs.
• Performs routine and preventative maintenance and repairs to district lands, facilities, and equipment.
• Assist with custodian tasks at all district facilities and grounds.
• Assist with cleaning interior, exterior, and immediate grounds while performing light maintenance.
• Assist with coordinating and setting up building for programs and rentals.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and distributing custodial and recreation supplies to various locations.
• Assist with performing minor building repairs and report repairs as needed.

• Maintain effective two-way communication while dealing with concerns in the field with all district staff and immediate supervisor.
• Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner to the internal customer that will facilitate team building and exceptional customer service to the external customer.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC.

Must have and maintain: valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; and CPR/AED certified or obtain within 90 days of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: continuously walk; frequently position one’s self to clean facilities; occasionally climb stairs/ladder, repetitive motion of hands/arms and grasping while cleaning, ability to move boxes of supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. and over with assistance, and eye/hand coordination; and occasionally walk/move on uneven ground.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: handle all weather conditions while traveling between facilities; frequently encounter rain, snow, insects, dirt, poisonous plants; occasionally encounter pesticides, chemicals, smoke, grease, oil, mud, wet, slippery floors and surfaces; rarely encounter confined spaces, heights over 12 feet and over, fumes, gases, odors, dust, mold, animal hair, dander, feces, noise (over 85 dbls)
