Job summary

City of DeSoto, TX is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team responsible for maintenance and repair of city buildings and infrastructure. Under general supervision, you set priorities, adjust schedules, and ensure safety practices are followed.

Responsibilities include directing staff, coordinating contractors, performing preventative maintenance, reading blueprints, and improving city facilities. Evening or weekend work may be required for events.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree required.
• Three (3) years of related work experience.
• HVAC or Master Electrician License required.
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
• Valid Class B Driver’s License with good driving record.
• Position may require work both at night and on weekends for special events or activities.
• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in facility maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.
• Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends; and
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Directs, monitors, and supervises assigned staff to ensure services are being performed as specified, conducts field visits and spot checks of work completed.
• Schedules and conducts training and safety meetings for assigned personnel.
• Tracks, schedules, and assists in conducting preventative maintenance on City building equipment.
• Ensures equipment and materials are maintained and repaired when needed.
• Oversees building repair and maintenance tasks, including carpentry work, painting, plumbing, electrical systems, and minor structural construction.
• Determines and recommends equipment, materials, safety needs, devices, and/or equipment for assigned operation, maintenance, and improvement projects.
• Reads and interprets maps, diagrams, schematics, contracts, and work orders.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems and implements efficient and effective solutions.
• Oversees contractors performing work on City facilities.
• Provides timely and responsive actions to internal/external customer concerns, complaints, and claims related to City buildings/facilities.
• Monitors safety practices of assigned staff and conducts evaluation and training when necessary.
• Performs other assigned duties.
