Job summary

Industrial is seeking a Maintenance Custodian in Manistee, MI to join the facilities team. You will perform preventive maintenance, monitor HVAC, handle repairs to lighting, plumbing, carpentry, and general custodial tasks to keep County facilities clean, safe, and welcoming.

The role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), strong communication, the ability to read blueprints, and a hands-on maintenance mindset. Shift is 1st, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.

Qualifications

• Verbal communication skills for clear interactions with County employees, contractors and the public.
• Hands-on maintenance mindset to support HVAC, repairs and upkeep.
• Knowledge of safety considerations in building maintenance.
• Ability to read blueprints and diagnose mechanical/electrical/plumbing issues.

Responsibilities

• Monitor HVAC units: check filters, troubleshoot, clean components, replace belts/motors.
• Perform building repairs: replace light ballasts, motors, pumps, outlets and switches, fuses.
• Carry out carpentry tasks: repair doorframes, hang doors, build walls and shelving units.
• Handle plumbing repairs: unclog toilets/sinks, fix leaks, install fixtures.
• Support operations by completing special work orders, moving supplies, and inspecting facilities.
