Job summary

TOPEKA PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking a skilled Maintenance Carpenter to keep facilities in safe and operable condition. You will perform finish and rough carpentry, painting, plastering, window and door installations, and related tasks across district buildings.

Responsibilities include following standard procedures, remodeling spaces for safety and efficiency, and assisting with preventive maintenance. Must have several years of carpentry experience or active apprenticeship participation.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship Carpentry Program or equivalent experience for required knowledge.
  • Minimum of four years experience in finish and rough carpentry in relevant settings.
  • Experience in painting, finish work, plastering, door/window installation/repair and related tasks.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and code requirements related to carpentry.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, blueprints, and related literature.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Receive daily assignments from the Maintenance Supervisor – Carpentry/Painting/Locks.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks per established standards and procedures.
  • Install structures and fixtures using appropriate tools.
  • Remodel offices/workspaces to ensure safe and efficient use of space.
  • Build or repair walls, fixtures, cabinets, flooring, doors, and related wooden components.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and safety compliance.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in daily tasks.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and records.
