Job summary

TOPEKA PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking a maintenance worker to support district facilities. The role involves performing maintenance on buildings, grounds, and equipment, drawing on skills in mowing, grounds maintenance, fencing, machining, welding, landscaping, and general equipment operation.

The candidate should be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 100 pounds, and capable of following written and verbal instructions in a safe, efficient manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; experience and training in department skill areas: mowing, grounds maintenance, fencing-playground maintenance, machining, welding, landscaping, equipment operation, asphalt.
• Ability to work from verbal and written instructions; knowledge of standard practices, tools and terminology.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively without constant supervision; knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials and proper ways necessary to perform assigned tasks.
• Must be in good physical condition and able to lift 100 pounds and pass a pre-employment physical; ability to perform work independently and dependably according to prescribed standards and technical procedures.
• Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions and to work from heights.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance work with varied levels of skill in order to effectively maintain the District's buildings, grounds, and equipment in a timely manner. Performs related duties as assigned.
