Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor to oversee daily facilities operations at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. You will supervise custodial and grounds staff, coordinate contractor work, and assist in staffing decisions and performance evaluations.

Responsibilities include safety compliance, facility inspections, emergency response, and coordination of repairs and renovations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management or related field preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of general building repair and maintenance with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• One (1) year of experience in a correctional facility preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Available for call-backs as needed.
• Physical stamina and endurance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with other members of the facilities department.
• Working knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily operation of the Facilities Department.
• Supervise Facilities staff assigned to custodial and grounds maintenance duties.
• Supervise contractors performing work within the Barnstable County Correctional Facility and enforce safety protocols.
• Participate in screening and hiring staff; train and assist in annual performance evaluations.
• Inspect facility and equipment; recommend improvements to meet needs.
• Respond to maintenance emergencies and after-hours requests.
• Oversee building operations including maintenance, repairs, and renovations by staff and contractors.
• Review daily cleaning checklists and address discrepancies with staff.
• Review time and attendance and shift assignments for Facilities staff.
