Job summary

California State University, Stanislaus in Stanislaus is seeking a Building Service Engineer to independently maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems. The role involves diagnosing issues and handling both routine and some complex tasks on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

Minimum qualifications include two years of journey-level experience in operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC and related systems.

Qualifications

  • Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems or the systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical technology and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, repair, and inspect heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and water systems and equipment.
  • Test, adjust, and calibrate boiler and air conditioning machinery, as well as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and microprocessor control instruments.
  • Repair and replace bearings, shafts, seals, rings, and electrical wiring.
  • Install central system parts, such as gauges, valves, and pipes, using journey-level skills in one or more applicable trades.
  • May rotate through various shift assignments for the operation, service, and repair of cogeneration equipment.
  • Maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Maintain and record reports, estimate cost, time, and materials, and perform work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, ensuring a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use building automation systems to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in HVAC systems.
  • Monitor building automation systems data and adjust systems to optimize energy usage.
  • Respond to service requests to adjust air flow, temperature, and humidity balances in rooms, building areas, or entire buildings.
  • Participate in the maintenance and operations of applicable heating and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Test and chemically treat boiler, condenser, and cooling tower water, as well as water from other systems.
  • Maintain swimming pools, ensuring proper treatment and functionality.
  • Maintain, inspect, diagnose, and make emergency repairs to steam, natural gas, water, refrigerant, air, and oil distribution systems.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
