Job summary

The City of Austin is hiring a Building & Grounds Assistant to perform custodial, minor maintenance and grounds keeping tasks at City buildings, parks, airports, and recreation areas. The role includes cleaning interiors, operating tools and equipment, and supporting event setups. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m.

to 3:00 p.m., with potential shifts during special events or emergencies. A Texas Driver's License may be required for vehicle operation; candidate must be able to travel

Qualifications

• One (1) year experience related to janitorial or grounds keeping services.
• Skill in learning simple tasks and in operating power tools.
• Ability to read and write English.

Responsibilities

• Clean building interiors.
• Perform grounds maintenance.
• Perform minor building maintenance and repair.
• Operate and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Set-up and tear-down exhibit halls and ballrooms per event needs.
• Perform routine administrative duties and prepare reports.
• Keep inventory of materials and supplies; make purchases when needed.
• Train new employees to perform basic duties.
