Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a maintenance supervisor for a Level III institution. You will plan, coordinate, and supervise daily and emergency maintenance and repair programs, ensuring safety and compliance.

You will develop maintenance plans, determine priorities, arrange materials, establish on-call procedures, and train staff, including inmate workers. A associate's degree and related experience are required, with mandatory basic training after hire.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and professional experience directly related to the area of employment.
• SCDC Minimum Requirements: high school diploma and 5 years professional experience related to the area of employment, one of which must be supervisory.
• Prefer experience in facilities maintenance including plumbing, general construction, electrical, kitchen equipment, and heavy equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, coordinate, implement and supervise the daily and emergency maintenance and repair programs for a Level III Institution.
• Develop maintenance plans and procedures for buildings, utility services, grounds, installed equipment, etc.
• Determine requirements, set priorities, obtain required materials and equipment, and assign work.
• Establish on-call procedures to respond to emergency maintenance and repair calls and ensure the work is promptly and properly performed.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance program for the institution.
• Determine all items requiring periodic preventive maintenance and develop PM check list for each item.
• Schedule and follow up to ensure that preventive maintenance is completed as required.
• Develop plan and cost estimate, determine schedule, and obtain required materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Select, orient, and train new employees and inmate trade workers and evaluate their performance.
