Job description

The foremost responsibility of a Grounds Manager is to be responsible for managing and performing a variety of tasks to maintain the appearance, safety, and functionality of grounds and landscaping at the facility according to the statement of work and FASCON’s standards. To accomplish that goal, they must manage the assigned staff responsible for the grounds of the facility. They shall prepare works schedules, as well as track employee attendance and report hours worked to FASCON Management. They shall inspect the facility to determine any unusual or recurring work that needs to be done and maintain a checklist of routine or daily responsibilities for the location assigned to them. They assign workers to specific chores or areas and then inspect the work to ensure it has been done satisfactorily. If disciplinary action is needed, it is required that the Facility Grounds Manager document this via a write-up and then discuss the actions with Human Resources. Together they will determine if the employee should be counseled about their performance, determine whether additional training is required or, if necessary, request termination of the employee. This position requires the use of hand and power tools, as well as landscaping and mowing equipment, to complete daily assignments efficiently and in compliance with organizational standards. The Grounds Laborer works collaboratively with the grounds maintenance team to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive outdoor environment.

Primary responsibilities include

Use of Equipment & Tools
  1. Operate and maintain landscaping and mowing equipment, including lawnmowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers and other related tools.
  2. Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes and pruners for various grounds keeping tasks.
  3. Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, properly maintained, and safely stored after each use.
  4. Debris Cleanup & Waste Disposal:
  5. Remove debris, trash, and other refuse from grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, and surrounding areas.
  6. Safely dispose of organic waste materials (e.g., branches, clippings, leaves) in accordance with organizational policies.
General Maintenance
  1. Conduct basic maintenance and repair to outdoor equipment, irrigation systems, and ground-related structures (e.g., benches, fences, planters).
  2. Monitor lawn and plant health, reporting issues such as pest infestations, dead plants, or water system malfunctions.
Safety Practices
  1. Follow all safety procedures when operating power tools and heavy equipment to ensure personal and team safety.
  2. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while working outdoors or handling tools and chemicals.
Seasonal Duties
  1. Perform seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal, leaf raking and seasonal planting of flowers or other vegetation.
  2. Install and/or remove holiday decorations or other temporary outdoor displays as required.
  3. Coordination & Teamwork:
  4. Collaborate with fellow team members to complete groundskeeping projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
  5. Take directions from supervisors and report any issues or needed repairs impacting ground maintenance.

The position requires
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to complete landscaping and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to climb ladders or access elevated areas for tree trimming or other related duties.
  • Lifting, carrying, and moving tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Dexterity and strength for handling landscaping tools and performing repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Vision abilities, including the ability to identify colors, depth perception, and the ability to focus on landscaping details.
  • Noise levels in the work environment may range from moderate to loud due to the use of landscaping and power equipment.
