Job summary

Cobb County Water Reclamation Facility seeks a capable laborer to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in construction, maintenance, and upkeep at facilities and grounds.

The role involves lifting, loading, digging, operating basic tools, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting safety procedures and traffic control; a valid Driver's License is required. High school diploma or GED preferred. This is a county position with stable employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; previous work experience involving equipment operation or construction and maintenance work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor in support of construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects: lifts, moves, loads, and unloads materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies; digs ditches, trenches, and holes manually or utilizing power equipment; shovels, rakes, spreads, compacts, and levels dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials.
• Follows established safety procedures: utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear; monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks and equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions.
• Performs various tasks involving grounds maintenance or roadside maintenance projects: cuts down trees; prunes tree limbs, hedges, and shrubs; picks up and disposes of tree limbs, brush, and other materials; mulches leaves; spreads pine straw, mulch, sand, gravel, or other grounds materials; lays sod or spreads grass seed; applies fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide.
• Performs various tasks involving building maintenance projects: cleans buildings, restrooms, or other facilities; mops, sweeps, strips, waxes, and buffs floor surfaces; troubleshoots plumbing problems and clears stopped drains; troubleshoots basic electrical problems; replaces batteries, light bulbs, and ballasts; paints interior and exterior surfaces and equipment.
• Communicates with supervisor and others to coordinate work activities and resolve problems; provides coverage during special events and responds to emergency situations.
