Job summary

Durham County Government is seeking a General Services Maintenance Worker to perform a broad range of carpentry, painting, custodial and grounds maintenance tasks across county facilities. The role requires a High School diploma or GED and at least one year of repair, construction, or maintenance experience.

Candidates must be able to operate motorized equipment and lift moderate weights; the position is full-time and nonexempt.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED required.
• One year of experience in repair, construction or maintenance or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Performs a broad range of skilled and non-skilled trades including carpentry and painting.
• Identifies problems, determines solutions and/or repair needs and performs necessary work.
• Replaces fan belts, motors, switches and other defective parts and equipment.
• Assists with providing cost estimates for repairs, installations and maintenance.
• Operates vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Provides ground maintenance of County buildings.
