Job summary

Durham County Government in Durham, NC is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform a broad range of trades and support building and grounds maintenance across county facilities.

The role works under general supervision, requiring the ability to follow instructions, operate motorized equipment, and maintain physical fitness; a valid driver’s license is required. This is a full-time, nonexempt position with standard county benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• One year of experience in the repair, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or facilities or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs a broad range of skilled and non-skilled trades including carpentry and/or painting, custodial and grounds maintenance, mechanical and related tasks.
• Identifies problems, determines solutions and/or repair needs and performs necessary work.
• Replaces fan belts, motors, switches and other defective parts and equipment.
• Assists with providing cost estimates for repairs, installations and maintenance.
• Completes office moves and/or transport furniture to department offices.
• Provides ground maintenance of County buildings.
• Operates vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Orders and transports materials and supplies.
• Installs and repairs street signs, rain gutters
• Removes and hauls trash, moves furniture and equipment.
• Performs related work as assigned.
