Job summary

The Department of State Police in Massachusetts is seeking a Laborer II to perform a range of manual labor tasks in support of skilled tradesmen. Responsibilities include cleaning barracks, basic repairs, supervising crews, and assisting with maintenance and grounds keeping across multiple facilities.

Applicants must have experience with hand and power tools, operate basic equipment, and be able to work in varying weather.

Qualifications

Ability to operate small hand tools and simple motorized equipment.
Knowledge of cleaning supplies and their impact on finishes.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and give clear directions.
Experience with general maintenance and grounds work.
Comfort with manual labor in varying weather conditions.
License: MA Class D driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Clean State Police facilities inside and outside; perform cleaning, waxing, polishing, and upkeep of floors and fixtures.
Perform basic repairs with handheld power tools for gym, kitchen, and offices.
Supervise laborers on projects and support Maintenance Foreman in absence.
Monitor work by contract vendors for installation, repair, or replacement tasks.
Install/uninstall window air conditioning units and move furniture as needed.
Operate light maintenance equipment and assist tradespersons as required.
Perform lawn care, trimming, mulching, and debris removal.
Assist with snow removal and related duties as needed.
Travel to other facilities to deliver or retrieve materials.
