Job summary

Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Birmingham, AL is seeking a full-time Facilities Manager to oversee GBHS facilities and fleet, coordinate maintenance, safety, and vendor relations, and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires supervisory experience, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage projects, schedule staff, and work irregular hours to support animal care operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years related experience including a minimum of one year supervisory experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with all staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Possession of a valid and appropriate Driver’s License and insurability to drive company vehicles.
• Ability to obtain a driver’s license endorsement to drive a (Class A non-commercial) 40 ft. 5th wheel trailer.

Responsibilities

• Designs and maintains a best-practice facility care program and supervises staff and volunteers.
• Oversees admin and operational systems for facilities and fleet to ensure optimal functioning.
• Manages inventory, logistics, storage, and distribution of supplies, food, and equipment.
• Plans and prioritizes projects and work plans; designs and approves schedules.
• Manages special events logistics, including vendor liaison and parking/setup/breakdown.
• Establishes maintenance protocols for facilities, fleet, and equipment to reduce costs.
• Manages security services (cameras, alarms, access control, etc.).
• Maintains fire and safety policies; supervises drivers, maintenance, landscaping, and janitorial staff.
• Manages vendors, bids, and contracts; coordinates estimates and punch lists.
• Inspects facilities for code compliance, permits, inspections, and safety.
• Oversees HVAC, fire extinguishers, alarms, and back-up power; ensures equipment is functional.
• Ensures properties are kept in proper order and operations run smoothly.
