Job summary

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is seeking a Full-Time Animal Control Officer in Birmingham, AL. You will respond to dispatches, remove stray and injured animals, educate the public, and assist in shelter operations. The role includes after-hours standby and a strong commitment to animal welfare.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1+ year in animal control or related field preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain national animal control certifications within 1 year.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond to dispatches to provide animal rescue and public assistance.
• Remove stray, injured, or animal welfare cases and ensure proper confinement.
• Educate the public about services, laws, and regulations.
• Respond to citizen complaints and investigate violations of animal laws.
• Assist in training new employees and testify in court when needed.
• Perform humane euthanasia when certified and requested.
• Maintain daily records in the computerized system and assist in shelter operations.
