Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Facilities Engineering Co-Op in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, to support the Facilities and Engineering team with process improvements, maintenance, reliability, and project execution. The position runs January–December 2026, 40 hours per week, onsite, under mentorship.

You'll work on Lean/Six Sigma initiatives, assist with engineering design, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• Completion of undergraduate freshman year at an accredited university.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Expected graduation December 2027 or later.
• Minimum GPA around 3.0 preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Experience with CAD or engineering drawings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities via Lean and Six Sigma principles.
• Assist with engineering design, concept development, and implementation.

Purpose:

The Facilities Engineering Co-Op will support the Facilities and Engineering team in identifying and implementing process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce cycle time, lower costs, and improve overall operational performance. Under the guidance of a mentor, the co-op will contribute to engineering, maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives within the facility while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

You will be responsible for:

• Supporting projects focused on improving process efficiency, quality, and operational excellence using project management methodologies.
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities through Lean and Six Sigma principles.
• Assisting with engineering projects, concept development, design activities, and implementation efforts as applicable.
• Preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation to communicate project results.
• Evaluating current practices and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Conducting gap assessments to identify deficiencies in procedures and compliance with established standards.
• Supporting maintenance, asset management, and reliability programs to enhance equipment performance and operational effectiveness.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams on facility-related initiatives.
• Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, safety, and occupational regulations, including ISO 14001 and applicable company policies.
• Performing additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Completion of undergraduate freshman year at an accredited university is required.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,, or a related engineering discipline.
• Expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
• Experience using engineering schematics, technical drawings, or CAD software is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Availability to work onsite in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on a full-time co-op schedule.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, or Reliability Engineering concepts.
• Familiarity with maintenance management, asset management, or facility operations.
• Project management experience through academic, extracurricular, or work-related projects.
• Experience analyzing data and developing process improvement recommendations.
