Job summary

LaGuardia Community College seeks an Engineer Assistant to perform professional engineering work at Assignment Level I/II with responsibilities ranging from design to cost estimation, construction coordination, and research. Reporting to the Director of Campus Facilities, the role supports capital improvement projects, prepares drawings, coordinates field construction, and ensures quality audits.

A BS in engineering and 2 years of experience are required, with strong HVAC, BAS/BMS, AutoCAD, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college and two years of full-time experience in professional engineering work; OR Education and/or experience equivalent to this.
• Minimum 3-4 years in facilities engineering, construction/project management and/or building operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs, specifications, and cost estimation for in‑house facilities improvement and alteration projects.
• Coordinate and review design for Capital Improvement Program projects.
• Coordinate field construction and perform construction quality audit.
• Engage in complex research, planning investigation, studies, or examinations.
• Prepare, maintain and file reference materials and project drawings.
• Coordinate Facilities' infrastructure projects from conception to commissioning on critical building systems, (e.g., boilers, chillers, mechanical systems, HVAC/distribution systems, structural, UPS, electrical, plumbing, BMS/controls logic, and fire/life‑safety.)
• Assist all phases of capital & internal projects.
• Conduct equipment inspections; support commissioning and test activities.
• Assist with cost estimating and budget tracking.
• Preparing technical reports;
• Managing submittals and closeout documentation.
