Job summary

Daimler Truck North America in Gaffney, SC is seeking a Facility Engineer responsible for maintenance, reliability, improvement, and operational performance across five building locations. Lead facility projects from concept to closeout while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Bachelors in an engineering discipline related to facilities engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years supporting industrial facilities or manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead facility improvement projects from concept development through execution, startup, and closeout.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans while ensuring safety and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor capital and expense spending to ensure fiscal responsibility and adherence to budgets.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders for facility projects and maintenance.
  • Identify, prioritize, and follow up on facility issues and operational requests.
  • Support utility systems including electrical distribution, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, and building security.
  • Maintain ownership of active security systems and change management as required by Daimler corporate.
  • Conduct facility assessments to identify reliability improvements, energy savings, and cost reductions.
  • Ensure facilities comply with local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.
  • Develop engineering solutions for infrastructure upgrades, equipment installations, and renovations.
  • Manage contractor safety programs and ensure site-specific standards compliance.
  • Analyze facility performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support emergency response activities related to facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, permits, and maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, and leadership teams.

Inside the Role

The Facility Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, reliability, improvement, and operational performance of multiple industrial facilities. This role provides engineering leadership and project management support for facility infrastructure, utilities, equipment installations, renovations, and capital improvement initiatives across five separate building locations. The Facility Engineer serves as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues and business requests, ensuring timely resolution while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards. This position manages multiple projects simultaneously, oversees contractor activities, develops budgets, and drives continuous improvement efforts to support plant operations. This position maintains an active security protocol by monitoring and overseeing access control systems and camera control systems throughout all locations.

Salary and Benefits

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 - $110,000 USD Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Lead facility improvement projects from concept development through execution, startup, and closeout.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans while ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Monitor capital and expense spending to ensure fiscal responsibility and adherence to approved budgets.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to execute facility-related projects and maintenance activities.
  • Identify, prioritize, and follow up on facility issues, maintenance concerns, and operational requests from plant leadership and production teams.
  • Support utility systems including electrical distribution, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, fire protection, and building security systems.
  • Maintains ownership of the active security systems and necessary change management processes required by Daimler corporate.
  • Conduct facility assessments and inspections to identify opportunities for reliability improvements, energy reduction, and cost savings.
  • Ensure facilities remain compliant with local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.
  • Develop engineering solutions for infrastructure upgrades, equipment installations, office renovations, and production support projects.
  • Manage contractor safety programs and verify compliance with site-specific standards.
  • Analyze facility performance metrics and recommend improvements to support operational excellence.
  • Support emergency response activities related to facility infrastructure and utilities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, specifications, permits, and maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, and leadership teams to align facility priorities with business objectives.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting industrial facilities, manufacturing operations, construction management, or related engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS - MaintainX).
  • Proven ability to develop and control project budgets and capital expenditures.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial building systems and utilities.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and outside service providers.
  • Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.
  • Ability to analyze technical issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across several locations.
  • Exceptional Candidates Might Have Experience within automotive, heavy manufacturing, or industrial production environments.
  • Knowledge of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • SAP experience
  • Experience managing capital projects exceeding $250,000.
  • Familiarity with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, EPA, and building code requirements.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or similar credentials.
