Job summary

Columbia College Chicago is seeking an Operating Engineer to operate and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems in a dynamic campus environment.

The role requires troubleshooting, building controls, and coordination with vendors. Union position with hourly rate around $51.54; full-time, on-site in Chicago, with on-call duties and preventive maintenance responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and two years trade school education in heating and ventilating equipment and plumbing.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an L399 Apprentice or 2 years' experience as a L399 Engineer.
  • Knowledge of Chicago Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, OSHA a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain heating and cooling equipment, steam and hot water boilers, air handling systems, cooling tower/chillers and related equipment.
  • Operate and troubleshoot life safety systems including fire alarm, sprinkler, generators, transfer switches, pre-action/deluge, and emergency systems.
  • Perform all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing MEP repairs and installations.
  • Respond to emergency notifications and on-call rotations as required.
  • Review and update work order tickets in the 360 FAMIS system.
  • Perform building rounds for safety and code compliance.
