Job summary

Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT is seeking a Facility Engineer responsible for maintaining all center assets to an acceptable quality standard and ensuring safe, efficient operation.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance across HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and building systems; coordinating with Chief/Assistant Chief of Engineering; supervising outside contractors when needed; and adhering to safety guidelines and energy conservation practices.

Qualifications

  • Maintenance experience in a convention center or large venue.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work at heights over 30 ft.
  • Strong verbal, text, and email communication.
  • Independent and team work capability.
  • Problem solver using facts and judgment.
  • Able to respond quickly to emergencies with prudent decisions.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Forklift/aerial lift certification a plus (training available).
  • Basic computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Troubleshoot machinery with available resources.
  • Manage tasks as they occur on the property.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, fire suppression, lighting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and courteous guest service.
  • Respond to emergencies and be on call 24/7.
  • Work varying hours including snow removal when required.
  • Coordinate with Chief/Assistant Chief of Engineering on projects.
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear PPE as required.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on HVAC, lighting, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
  • Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment.
  • Operate facility software systems independently.
  • Oversee outside contractors for major repairs.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and meetings requested by engineering leadership.
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all building areas as specified.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained after use.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Chief/Assistant Chief.
