Job summary

Educational Alliance in New York, NY seeks a Building Engineer-Facilities Manager to maintain and operate building systems for safe, efficient performance at the 14th Street Y. You will oversee electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety infrastructure and supervise the Superintendent and contracted cleaners.

This full-time role requires leadership, strong knowledge of building codes, and experience managing capital projects.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors Degree required.
• 5+ years' experience at a director level overseeing building engineering, maintenance, and construction operations required.
• S-95 certification (or obtain within one month of hire date)
• Fire Safety Director certificate (or obtain within 9 months of hire date)
• Locksmithing license (or experience) strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, heating/ boilers, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety.
• Coordinate and oversee repairs, maintenance work, and vendor activities.
• Manage contractors and ensure timely, high-quality completion of work.
• Monitor and maintain building security systems and access control.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records.
• Assist with maintenance budgeting, tracking, and cost-control processes.
• Manage capital project planning for building systems and future integrations with new BMS systems.
• Oversee general maintenance and cleaning of the building, working alongside the Superintendent to maintain and repair the building and its systems, acting as a mentor and teacher when necessary.
• Manage and assist with work orders from program staff, with excellent communication, delegation, and time management
