Job summary

La Crosse County is seeking a custodial team member in the Facilities Department to perform semi-skilled cleaning and upkeep of large public buildings and grounds, under supervision. Duties include floor care, window and wall cleaning, and basic maintenance of cleaning equipment.

The role requires flexibility, reliability, and adherence to safety standards. The employee may operate county vehicles for supply runs and assist with general maintenance tasks as required.

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial work and building cleaning preferred.
• Ability to perform routine cleaning duties and operate cleaning equipment.
• Must pass criminal background check as required by Wisconsin law.

Responsibilities

• Maintains floors including sweeping, buffing, stripping, waxing, dust mopping, mopping, vacuuming, and shampooing and other related floor care duties.
• Cleans walls, doors and windows, including work at heights with ladders or lift equipment.
• Maintains sidewalks in winter and grounds in summer (snow/ice removal, mowing, trimming).
• Unplugs toilets, sinks, drains and performs minor plumbing repairs; shuts off water as needed.
• Picks up and disposes of waste, replenishes supplies, stocks restrooms, and assists with meal delivery at Lakeview.
