Job summary

Champaign County is seeking a Custodian for the 2nd shift (Mon-Fri, 12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) to perform routine cleaning of about 20,000 square feet and handle mail services for the county. The role reports to the Custodian and Grounds Manager and is part of the Facilities department.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. The union AFSCME contract governs this position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
• Ability to communicate one-on-one and in small groups.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, sweeps, dust mops, wet mops floors, stairways, corridors.
• Operates heavy cleaning equipment such as scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet shampooer or vacuums.
• Identifies cleaning problems and determines remedies.
