In our over 125-year history, we have become one of the most celebrated art museums in the country, and we are known for our innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts.

The Facilities Coordinator is a hands‑on member of the Operations team responsible for the physical setup, breakdown, movement, and maintenance support required to keep Walker spaces safe, functional, and ready for staff, visitors, programs, and events. The role performs event and meeting room setups, moves furniture and equipment, completes basic maintenance and troubleshooting, conducts routine inspections, and responds to day‑to‑day facility needs. This position works closely with the Facilities Manager and other teams and requires regular physical activity, flexibility, and a strong attention to safety and detail.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Event and Space Setup:
  • Set up and take down event, meeting, program, and staff spaces according to floor plans, event needs, and safety requirements.
  • Move, arrange, and store tables, chairs, staging, barricades, podiums, signage, coat racks, and other furniture and event equipment.
  • Prepare spaces before events and return spaces to standard configuration following events, including cleaning up materials and ensuring equipment is properly stored.
  • Complete office moves, desk and furniture setups, workstation configurations, and other physical space changes as assigned.
  • Support loading, unloading, receiving, and internal movement of supplies, furniture, equipment, and event materials.
  • Respond to last‑minute event and operational needs and adjust setups quickly and safely when plans change.
  • Attend regular programmatic and event planning meetings to understand upcoming event schedules, agendas, room configurations, and setup and breakdown needs, and translate those requirements into effective physical setups.
Facilities and Basic Maintenance:
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening hardware, assembling furniture, making simple adjustments, and addressing other routine facility issues within the scope of the position.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs and inspections of offices, public spaces, staff kitchens, meeting rooms, storage areas, and building equipment; identify and report repair, safety, or maintenance needs.
  • Troubleshoot basic furniture, fixture, equipment, and workspace issues and elevate more complex repairs to the Facilities Manager or appropriate vendor.
  • Maintain organized storage areas and ensure tools, furniture, event equipment, and supplies are returned to designated locations and kept in usable condition.
  • Assist with routine preventive maintenance tasks and vendor access as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Support basic building operations, including monitoring facility conditions and responding to spills, obstructions, room readiness issues, and other immediate operational needs.
Operational Support:
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities, Security, Visitor Experience, Events, Performing Arts, and other departments to complete physical setup and facility support needs.
  • Assist with inventory, organization, and restocking of facilities, office, and event supplies.
  • Follow established safety procedures, setup plans, equipment‑use practices, and instructions from the Facilities Manager.
  • Help identify practical improvements to room setups, storage, equipment use, and day‑to‑day facility operations.
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed to support events and building operations, including occasional evenings and weekends.
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
Minimum Requirements
  • 1-2 years of experience in facilities, event setup, building operations, maintenance, moving, hospitality operations, or a similar hands‑on role is preferred.

  • Ability to follow floor plans, setup diagrams, written instructions, and verbal directions with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort using basic hand tools and performing minor maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Strong safety awareness and good judgment when moving furniture, using equipment, and working in active public and event spaces.
  • Flexibility and ability to quickly adjust to unusual, unexpected, or time‑sensitive needs.
  • Reliable, team‑oriented communication skills and a service‑focused approach to working with colleagues and event partners.
  • Ability to independently complete assigned tasks, identify when additional assistance is needed, and follow through to completion.
