Job summary

SUMMARYThe Facilities Carpenter / Maintenance Technician is responsible for the structural upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of the unique wooden JST HPEC facility. This role focuses on carpentry, building infrastructure, and specialized facility assets to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained working environment for all employees.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Structural and Framework CarpentryThe technician constructs, repairs, and installs building frameworks, structures, fixtures, and cabinetry using standard woodworking tools and equipment. They complete work orders related to office reconfigurations, custom furniture building, and overall facility layout changes.2. Specialized Asset & Preventative MaintenanceThe role performs ongoing preventative maintenance and repairs on specialized facility assets, including window shades, greenhouse structures, tongue-and-groove ceilings, deck structures, and associated environmental systems. Additionally, the technician assists with general facility upkeep, including minor plumbing or basic building repairs as needed.3. Inspections and Shop OperationsThe technician conducts routine facility inspections to identify necessary structural repairs, cosmetic updates (such as painting, drywall patching, and wood filling), and potential safety hazards. They maintain a clean, organized, and safe woodworking/maintenance shop and coordinate with the Facilities Manager to source and order necessary lumber, hardware, and building materials for approved projects.4. Safety Compliance and Emergency SupportAll carpentry and facility maintenance work must be executed in full compliance with OSHA regulations and local building codes. The technician also acts as a flexible support resource for the broader Facilities team during major facility events, weather-related emergencies, or large-scale repairs, along with completing any other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEA High School Diploma or equivalent is required, though completion of a formal carpentry apprenticeship or trade school program is highly preferred. Candidates must possess 3 to 5 years of professional carpentry or commercial facility maintenance experience, a proven ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and facility layouts.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis position frequently requires lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Candidates must possess physical agility, including the ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, crawl in ceiling access spaces, and stand for extended periods throughout the workday.WORKING ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in an active facility and shop environment, with occasional tasks completed outdoors or at elevated heights using lifts, ladders, or scaffolding. Due to regular exposure to noise, dust, and power equipment, employees are required to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
