Job description

Overview

Fabricator/Welder will be responsible for daily installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of manufacturing systems, especially during equipment changes or additions. This hands‑on position requires strong mechanical and spatial skills, knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, excellent welding abilities, and a fundamental understanding of welding procedures and metallurgy. The role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on‑site.

Starting Pay: commensurate with experience

Schedule: 1st shift Monday – Friday

Pay Schedule: Bi‑weekly

Responsibilities
  • Must have strong mechanical and spatial skills and knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems combined with excellent welding abilities and fundamental knowledge of all welding procedures and metallurgy.
  • Involved in the daily installation, maintenance, service and repair of a wide variety of manufacturing systems in accordance with sketches and manufacturer's specifications, using various hand, power and welding tools as well as precision‑measuring and testing instruments of the maintenance trade.
  • Fabricates and assembles structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, stacks, and metal parts for buildings and bridges according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprints, developing layout and sequencing operations while applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses, adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Inspects fabricated parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements and/or verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Must be able to concentrate in a busy work environment and be detail oriented in order to maintain a high level of quality and a safe working environment.
  • Reports time spent, parts used, settings and other job related activities in the CMMS system.
  • Provides feedback to planners and supervisors to improve routine procedures, part availability and job preparation.
  • Maintains exemplary housekeeping and care of machinery and work areas while adhering to company policies and guidelines.
  • May be required to provide assistance in the plant involving other types of general maintenance work.
  • Completes repairs and projects in a safe and timely manner, ensuring that all special PPE is utilized according to company rules and policies and following job related SOPs.
  • Provides training and feedback to operators and production supervisors.
  • Inspects work to assure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Requisitions supplies, materials, tools, machine parts, and other necessary equipment.
Qualifications
  • Vocational school training and/or substantial relevant work experience is required. Work history will be reviewed for stability where applicable and a clean criminal record is required. Must possess the ability to read and write effectively and be proficient in mathematics as it relates to mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with all co‑workers and to use good judgment in recognizing the scope of responsibilities.
  • Must be mechanically inclined, have good problem‑solving skills, work independently, and perform highly accurate work that requires concentration and physical effort.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold environment, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work safely with, around, and wearing protection for cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks, and lubricants.
  • Must be able to firmly grasp and use hammers, wrenches, and various hand tools during adjustments, repairs, and replacement/change‑out operations.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
