Summary

The Fabrication Operator is responsible for all operations involved in making couplings for pipe.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures; perform tasks safely.
  • Inspect parts for correct dimensions.
  • Assist with procuring materials needed for production, using tools such as tape measure, plug gauge, dial indicator, inside caliper, dial caliper, and burr knife.
  • Operate equipment including cutting couplings, machining on lathes, drilling holes, installing set screws, hydro testing, and packaging.
  • Complete production and quality paperwork accurately.
  • Answer technical questions from employees when knowledge permits.
  • Refer questions or problems to the Fabrication manager or HR/Safety manager.
  • Report problems to the Fabrication Manager or Leader.
  • Immediately notify the Shift Supervisor in case of an accident or injury.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance for equipment repairs.
  • Take on additional assignments as requested by management.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions in English; good communication skills.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, perform basic arithmetic, and use a calculator.
  • Apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems involving standard variables.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands

Employees must regularly stand, walk, handle materials, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Occasionally sit. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

The work involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, and occasionally to wet/humid, hot/cold conditions, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor weather, electrical hazards, and vibration. The noise level is usually loud.
