Job summary

Pratt Institute is seeking a full-time Technician for the School of Design’s Production Labs. Reporting to the Director, the Technician will help run the School of Design Shop, a diverse fabrication facility serving curricular needs with occasional support in other labs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least five years in a shop setting, with safety certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of five years related experience in a shop or fabrication environment.
• Preference for a certificate of fitness or safety license.
• Experience supervising student employees preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe operation, setup, inspection, and maintenance of equipment.
• Supervise daily student and faculty work, providing technical guidance.
• Hire, train, and supervise student employees in safe handling of tools.
• Support non-credit instruction, safety certifications, and workshop coordination.
• Collaborate on training materials, procedures, and services for shop users.
• Pursue continuous improvement of resources and facilities.
