Otis Worldwide Corporation seeks an experienced Technician at the Goldsmith Campus – Westchester campus in Los Angeles. The role focuses on safety, operation of shop/lab equipment, and hands-on demonstrations for students, staff and faculty.
Requires a BFA degree in a related field with at least one year of relevant experience; CPR/First Aid certification and OSHA knowledge preferred. Hourly wage position with standard shop responsibilities and adherence to safety standards.
We are searching for an experienced Technician at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Technical Support Staff are responsible for the safety and technical advancement of our maker community. Shop, Laboratory and Studio Technicians orient and initiate students, staff and faculty through a series of strategically scripted hands on instructional demonstrations aimed at providing a foundational overview of the safety, process, and material considerations related to that type of production. Thereafter, Technicians continue to support, supervise, and advise all bodies working in their respective areas; insuring that all activities adhere to Industry and Technical Support Services Standards.
Technical Support Staff are responsible for the general upkeep of the shop, lab or studio they perform in. This includes the general maintenance and basic repair of all equipment and tools associated with their space; the daily cleaning, daily organization and occasional minor renovation of the space.
Technical Support Staff should represent the department and their respective areas in a positive, customer service oriented manner. Users should be supported, respected and empowered; all while observing shop/lab/studio etiquette and general best practices.
Conducts standardized and scheduled shop/lab/studio safety and technical demonstrations with students, faculty and staff. Demonstrations will cover all aspects of shop safety, as well as a comprehensive demonstration of the proper operational techniques of all tools and equipment.
Assists and advises students on the production of their projects. This will include the discussion of methods and materials, the use of tools, and any necessary steps to complete the project safely and successfully.
Attends departmental meetings, trainings, and workshops to maintain a current understanding of work culture, policies, and procedures related to the shop/lab/studio, the college, and other outside regulatory agencies.
Will be both CPR and First Aid certified. Will adhere to OSHA standards and best practices relevant to position
Performs other related duties as assigned.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation Type: Hourly Wage
Salary Range: 19.97 - 23.55
