Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Co in Newington, NH is seeking a Fabrication B Mechanic to fit and lay out cylinders, cones, and developed lengths, read prints, and follow production orders. This role is 100% onsite with potential 2nd or 3rd shift opportunities on a manufacturing shop floor.

Candidates must obtain certifications in SMAW, GTAW, SAW and other weld processes, and demonstrate proficiency in stainless/carbon welding across multiple positions per ASME criteria.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of fabrication experience or at least one year of operational experience.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, weld symbols, welding procedures and dimensional requirements.
  • Experience reading blueprints, sketches or building plans.

Responsibilities

  • Weld/fit metal components together per blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Weld seams inside large metal components.
  • Grind welds per engineering specifications.
  • Set-up and monitor automated welding of interior/exterior seams on large metal components.
  • Deburr edges and machined surfaces with small powered hand tools.
  • Cut and manually fabricate metal conduit and instrument panel housings on surface of large metal cones.
  • Layout and fitting of cylinders, plate and cones to drawing and engineering specifications for lengths and angular measurements.
  • Understand and work to welding specifications to obtain welding qualifications for production welding to ASME criteria.
  • Perform testing functions per engineering specifications.
  • Wraps and pads product with packing material.
  • Attach identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate.
  • May count items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders.
  • Can complete a pack and ship Production Order, requires clean, pack, and tag of components per Order.
  • Must be qualified and proficient in all welding positions of carbon and stainless steel for 2 welding processes.
  • Must be proficient in plasma cutting, carbon arc, oxy-acetylene burning and cutting, and grinding of all specified materials.

About The Role

As a Fabrication B Mechanic you will be fitting and doing layout of cylinders, cones, developed length, angular measurements. Reading, understanding and working to work instructions (production orders) and drawings. Can understand the workings of the technical and quality assurance manuals. Must obtain certifications and proficiency in SMAW, GTAW, SAW, consumable inserts and other weld processes by management.

You will report to the Fabrication Supervisor and be located at Newington, NH. You will support the role 100% onsite.

Note: this position will either be for a 2nd or 3rd shift opportunity. You will work on a manufacturing shop floor that requires sitting, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Weld/fit metal components together per blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Weld seams inside large metal components.
  • Grind welds per engineering specifications. Grind interior of large metal forgings to foster the coating of this surface with layer of stainless steel.
  • Set-up and monitor automated welding of interior/exterior seams on large metal components.
  • Deburr edges and machined surfaces with small powered hand tools.
  • Cut and manually fabricate (assemble) metal conduit and instrument panel housings on surface of large metal cones.
  • Layout and fitting of cylinders, plate and cones to drawing and engineering specifications for lengths and angular measurements.
  • Use overhead lifts per contract guidelines
  • Understand and work to welding specifications to obtain welding qualifications for production welding to the applicable requirements of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineering (ASME) acceptance criteria without guidance or assistance.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in stainless carbon plate SMAW, stainless plate, carbon wire GTAW, and different thermal cutting and heating processes after proper training is completed.
  • Perform testing functions per engineering specifications.
  • Wraps and pads product with packing material.
  • Attach identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate.
  • May insert cardboard fillers, felt pads, and wooden separators in containers. Wraps banding around crate using banding equipment.
  • May count items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders.
  • Can complete a pack and ship Production Order, requires clean, pack, and tag of components per Order.
  • Must be qualified and proficient in all welding positions of carbon and stainless steel for 2 welding processes.
  • Must be proficient in plasma cutting, carbon arc, oxy-acetylene burning and cutting, and grinding of all specified materials.
  • Can understand and work to welding specifications to obtain welding qualifications for production welding to the applicable requirements of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineering (ASME) acceptance criteria without guidance or assistance.
