Qualifications

  • Strong supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise coolers and related areas; manage up to 150 staff including Leads.
  • Ensure food safety procedures for knives, needles, saws and hooks are followed.
  • Prepare pre-operational paperwork and sanitize work areas before shift start.
  • Conduct safety checks and PPE compliance for all employees.
  • Perform food safety audits and enforce policies; take corrective action as needed.
  • Train new staff and update letters and training records.
  • Write production paperwork, work orders, injury reports and reprimands.
  • Improve yields and reduce waste; cross-train employees; meet volume goals.
  • Maintain USDA relationships and ensure proper staffing for operations.
  • Collaborate with Leads to resolve production and quality issues.

OverviewWe are seeking a highly organized and experienced Cooler Supervisor (exempt) to oversee our multi shift carcass cooler operations in a beef processing facility that is USDA regulated. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, and a solid understanding of beef production and inventory control. This role is vital in ensuring efficient handling of hot and cold carcass for processing, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing cooler workflows. The Cooler Supervisor will lead a team of cooler staff, coordinate cooler activities, and implement process improvements to enhance overall operational efficiency. The ideal candidate must be able to handle a fast-paced, deadline and customer service driven environment.Responsibilities:Manage and supervise the following areas: Coolers and other areas as needed.Manage and supervisor up to 150 employees including Leads.Ensure all employees are following food safety procedures when sanitizing knifes, air injection needles, saws and hooks properly.Ensure that all products leaving the area meet required specifications.Prepare pre-operational paperwork and ensure the work area is clean and sanitized before the day’s operations begin.Ensure all employees are at their workstations on time at beginning of shift and after breaks to avoid late start ups.Conduct safety checks on employees making sure all have their personal protective equipment required to perform their duties.Conduct food safety and safety audits to ensure compliance.Enforce all food safety policies and take immediate action on employees who violate said policies or perform unsafe acts.Train new employees in their new position correctly and safely and document. Review company policies and department rules and procedures. Write training letters and conduct training when employees are assigned to a new position or if current duties change.Write letters and fill out production paperwork, work orders, training and safety letters, injury reports and reprimands.Ensure all employees are following food safety procedures.Improve yields by working with employees and help in the reduction of waste.Cross train employees.Responsible for meeting volume goals, reducing work comp claims, maximizing yields, reducing cost and employee retention.Maintain good working relationship with USDA and employees.Manage job changes and rotations and ensure area is properly staffed to meet operational needs.Coach and develop employees to obtain results.Perform other duties as needed or assignedEssential Job FunctionMonitor Lead personnel to ensure that daily tasks are completed such as filling orders, rotating product.Interface with sales, line supervision and production workforce on production and quality procedures.Ensure that carcasses are segregated correctly and graded appropriately for production runs.Collaborate with Leads and employees to resolve any work-related issues.Review production downtime, efficiency and material information to determine corrective actions.Responsible for cost controls, process improvements, efficiencies, downtime and material usage.Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as yields, product condemned, work orders, employee time sheets, down time reports, equipment list.Ensure that employees are trained on GMP’s, Food Safety and Safety rules and that they are followed daily. Train employees on time clock punches.Perform, monitor and evaluate compliance with USDA regulations other than those incorporated into daily routines.Ensure areas are covered thru employee movement as needed.RequirementsMust be able to communicate clearly in English & Spanish (written and verbal)Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)Proficient in mathematicsMust have legible handwritingMust have good interpersonal skills and communication skills.Must have an overall favorable employment record and attendance recordMust be able to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays as neededMust be able to stand for prolonged periods of time (8-12 hours) on a concrete/metal grate floorMust be able to work in cold environments, 40 degrees.Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Must have min of 5 years of Fabrication experience - concentration in CoolersSupervisory experienceMust be able to supervise 10 to 150 employees.Western Valley Meat Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
