Job summary

Land Pride, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing, is seeking a 1st shift Fabrication Operator in Abilene, KS. This role sets up and operates fabricating machines to cut, shape, and finish metal parts, reading job specs and maintaining quality.

The position runs Monday-Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with overtime on Fridays, requires working with various presses and saws, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of fabrication operator experience.
• Able to read prints and understand press brake operations.
• Strong math skills including fractions and decimals.
• Basic understanding of computer functions and software.

Responsibilities

• Set up, tend and operate fabricating machines (saws, shears, rollers, brakes, presses, forming, punching, laser/plasma) to cut, shape, and finish metal parts.
• Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Position work piece and align layouts for cutting and bending.
• Operate machines safely and monitor for defects or malfunctions; perform basic maintenance.

Land Pride, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing, is seeking a 1st Shift Fabrication Operator in our Abilene West facility.

This position works Monday-Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus overtime on Fridays as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up, tend and operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, roller, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, punch machines, laser cutting, CNC plasma, etc. that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
• Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or computer program. Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto work piece.
• Position work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
• Push button or depress pedal to activate machine.
• Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
• Measure work piece dimensions with varying measuring devices to determine accuracy of machine operation.
• Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.
• Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
• Assist machine operators to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces.
• Monitor fabricating tasks and recommends quality improvement initiatives to the fabrication manager.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• One to three years' experience as a fabrication operator or similar
• Basic understanding of computer functions and various software
• Must be able to read prints and understand all press brake operations
• Must have strong math skills, including proficiency with fractions and decimals
