Job summary

Henry Ford Health System is seeking an Optical Dispenser in Southfield to interpret ophthalmic prescriptions and accurately deliver eyewear orders. You will inspect, dispense, fit, and adjust eyewear while explaining care and maintenance to patients.

The role requires basic math, computer familiarity, and prior customer-service experience. The position involves handling eyewear orders in software, troubleshooting lens/frame issues, and coordinating with insurance for coverage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D required.
• Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
• Previous customer service, hospitality, or retail experience preferred.
• Must be able to walk, bend and stand for extended periods.
• Completion of all required training courses as directed by Henry Ford OptimEyes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect eyewear and coordinated order prior to delivery.
• Dispense eyewear using the E.A.R.N. for Dispensing process.
• Fit eyewear and adjust frames to patient’s face.
• Explain care and maintenance of eyewear; advise on cleaning regimens.
• Process eyewear orders in the software program and manage delivery status reports.
• Troubleshoot vision, lens, and frame issues including verifying prescription and PDs.
• Understand frame materials to adjust and repair them.
• Apply vision insurance coverage to remake orders as needed.
• Receive eyewear orders into the software; assist with placing orders as needed.
