Job summary

University of Utah Health Ophthalmology is seeking a Part-Time Tissue Recovery Specialist to excise ocular tissue from deceased donors for transplantation or research. The role involves driving to recovery sites, performing donor assessments, executing sterile corneoscleral excision, and delivering tissue to surgical centers, Moran Eye Center, and the Utah Lions Eye Bank.

Requirements include an Associate degree in biology/chemistry or related field, strong communication skills, and immunization

Qualifications

• Associate degree in biology, chemistry or related field or equivalency.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Certification as Eye Bank Technician, Ophthalmic Technician or Tissue Bank Specialist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive to recovery locations and perform ocular tissue excision.
• Conduct aseptic preservation of tissue for transplantation or research.
• Deliver ocular tissue and samples to designated facilities.
• Maintain donor confidentiality and proper documentation.
• Assist in training new Tissue Recovery Specialists.
